Barcelona creates priority areas for livestock and agriculture

The Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) has created PEPNat, the special management plan for the natural environment and landscape of the Parc Natural de Collserolam whose objective is to promote agricultural habits and landscapes that favor biodiversity, in a project that recognizes and identifies some areas priority for agriculture and livestock: optimal areas that correspond to arable or easily recoverable spaces.

The proposal, highlighted by the AMB, highlights and helps maintain the extensive built heritage of the Serra de Collserola and increases the area managed by the park through co-responsibility and co-management with the owners.

The Consorci del Parc de Collserola, the managing body of the agroforestry area, has begun to promote projects that translate into “dynamization, advice, subsidies and facilities for farmers and ranchers” of the park with an endowment of nearly 200,000 euros per year.
