Fewer pig slaughters in the first half of 2023, according to MAPA

The number of pigs slaughtered during the first half of 2023 in Spanish slaughterhouses was 28,810,414 specimens, which means a reduction of 7.7% compared to the 26,599,966 in the same period of 2022, according to official data. of the Livestock Slaughter Survey, compiled by the General Subdirectorate of Analysis, Coordination and Statistics of the  Ministerio de Agricultura, Pesca y Alimentación (MAPA).

The rise in feed costs and the effects of the drought that have hit the national territory during much of the first half of this year has caused the level of pork production to be significantly reduced during the first six months of the year.

By autonomous community, the axis formed by Catalonia and Aragon continues to be the one with the highest volume of animal slaughter, with more than half of the national volume, although Catalonia has reduced its slaughter by nearly 8%.
