INTERPORC Strengthens Strong Trade Relations Between Spanish Pork and the Chinese Market at CIIE Shanghai

INTERPORC is holding several meetings with Chinese and Spanish institutions at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai (November 5-10). These meetings focus on strengthening institutional and trade relations with the Chinese market, the leading destination for Spanish white pork exports.

The CIIE is a leading forum for dialogue between authorities, business entities, and organizations from different countries. Its strong institutional character makes it a key space for fostering cooperation and understanding between China and Spain. Coincidentally, this forum coincides with the recent visit of the King and Queen of Spain to China to reinforce these ties.

INTERPORC participated in the fair with a large stand as part of the European campaign ‘EU Pork, The Smart Choice’. A space where attendees can also enjoy tastings of white-breed pork, as well as demonstrations of Serrano ham carving, with the aim of showcasing the potential of Spanish pork products in both Spanish and Chinese cuisine.

In parallel, the Interprofessional Association held culinary demonstrations in the Gastronomic Area of the Spanish Pavilion, coordinated by ICEX Spain Export and Investment, where local and European chefs presented the versatility, quality, and flavor of Spanish pork to an audience of professionals, authorities, and consumers.

Participation in the China International Meat Conference

During the fair, Daniel de Miguel, INTERPORC’s International Director, participated as a speaker at the China International Meat Conference. In his presentation to representatives of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and the Food Safety Bureau’s (FSB) certification department—the entity responsible for ensuring the safety of imported and exported food and managing exporter registration—he emphasized that “the strengths of the Spanish pork production model are traceability, sustainability, innovation, and food quality and safety.”

Participation in both the trade fair and the conference are highly significant because they provide a space for direct dialogue with authorities and representatives of the international meat sector. As De Miguel points out, “These are top-level forums where we can share experiences, demonstrate the strength of our model, and continue to build a relationship of mutual trust with China.”
