Meat and Distribution Alliance Launched at the Ministry of Agriculture

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food hosted the launch of the Meat and Distribution Alliance, an initiative created to strengthen communication and collaboration among the various links in the food chain. The goal is to convey the realities of the livestock and meat sector to the public with transparency and scientific rigor.

The event included the participation of the Secretary General for Agricultural Resources and Food Safety, Ana Rodríguez, who highlighted the strategic value of the meat sector to the Spanish economy. With a turnover of €41 billion, more than 122,000 direct jobs in the industry, and around 700,000 in the livestock phase, the sector has established itself as the leading agri-food industry in the country.

Improving Communication with Consumers

The Alliance aims to improve communication with consumers, strengthen trust, and enhance institutional collaboration throughout the entire value chain. Among its main objectives is the creation of a permanent dialogue forum to address, objectively and based on scientific evidence, particularly sensitive issues such as environmental sustainability, animal welfare, nutrition, and health.

During the event, the sector’s adaptability and the progress achieved in production, sustainability, and animal welfare were highlighted. It was also noted that the latest data reflects a recovery in consumption both at home and in the out-of-home sector.

The program also included a presentation focused on analyzing the hoaxes and misinformation circulating about livestock production and meat, as well as a panel discussion entitled “Collaboration Between Links in the Supply Chain for the Consumer,” which addressed the importance of providing truthful and accessible information in a context marked by food misinformation.

ANAFRIC welcomes this initiative, which strengthens the sector’s unity and promotes communication based on data, transparency, and responsibility—key elements for building consumer trust and institutional recognition of our work.
