Mercolleida is recognized as the reference market for beef and pork

Mercolleida already appears, as of this Tuesday, March 7, 2023, as a State Reference Market after the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda of the Generalitat de Catalunya (DACC) has approved, following a favorable report from its technical services, the request submitted by the Lleida fish market. In this way, the prices of the pork, beef and cereal markets become a state reference, while those of lamb, fodder and sweet fruit do so in certain communities or producing areas.

The DACC has officially communicated this resolution to the Ministry of Agriculture so that it can include Llotja Agropecuària Mercolleida SA in the National Registry of reference markets.

As for pigs, although the prices of fattened pigs and suckling pigs were already considered a Spanish reference thanks to the fact that they serve as the basis for more than 90% of the purchases and sales of pigs carried out throughout the Spanish territory, this recognition endows , without a doubt, of prestige to the Mercolleida market and values its trajectory, in addition to including references to the sow, also of national scope.

Mercolleida, source of information

The same occurs with beef and, especially, with cereal, a market that has been gaining ground thanks to the quality of the reports that are generated, as well as the relationships that Mercolleida has been consolidating lately with operators and other commercial agents. In this sense, it is also worth noting the role that Mercolleida has played as a source of information on the grain market since the war in Ukraine began.

In the field of the sheep market, the prices of lamb in its variety of weights are considered as reference prices in Catalonia, Huesca and Zaragoza, while with those of fodder, they become a reference in Catalonia, Aragon and Navarra. Lastly, prices for sweet fruit are considered a benchmark in Catalonia and Aragon.
