Provacuno is participating once again in Alimentaria, one of the most important international food and beverage trade fairs, which brings together professionals from the food, beverage, and foodservice industries in Barcelona. This year, it also celebrates its 50th anniversary.
At this year’s event, Provacuno is taking advantage of its presence to share information about the progress of its second year of the campaign, “For a Sustainable Europe: Beef’s Special Mission.” Co-financed by the European Union and led by Provacuno (Spain) and Apaq-W (Belgium), this promotional plan aims to raise awareness of the sustainability of the European beef sector, with a particular focus on how it can contribute to reducing emissions and preventing soil degradation and improving soil quality.

Alimentaria, which this year brings together thousands of national and international professionals from 3,300 companies in 70 countries, positions itself as a strategic platform for conveying these messages not only to the production sector, but also to distributors, industry, restaurants, and key influencers. In this environment, Provacuno highlights the role of beef cattle within a European production model committed to sustainability in its three dimensions: economic, social, and environmental.
In the words of Javier López, director of Provacuno: “Alimentaria is a top-tier international showcase that allows us to demonstrate the beef sector’s firm commitment to sustainability, as well as to share with the entire food chain all the tools we are developing to advance in this area.” For the director of the Interprofessional Beef Organization, “the sector must continue to be a driver of change and continuous improvement, promoting solutions that allow us to move towards a more efficient and environmentally friendly model.”
A Stand to Highlight the Importance of More Sustainable Beef Cattle
Over the next few days, at stand number 281 in Hall 3 of Fira Gran Via, Provacuno will be explaining the latest developments in its campaign to all interested parties, including one of its key milestones: the upcoming launch of a web app to calculate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with beef production in Spain, both in the livestock and industrial sectors, expressed in terms of carbon footprint. This solution is delivered through a web app that will integrate the entire value chain.
This year, the campaign will continue its presence at industry trade shows such as SIAL Paris, and at universities in Spain and Europe, with seminars to convey to students of various degrees and disciplines the importance of sustainability in the beef sector for achieving carbon neutrality. Other activities will also take place in Spain, Belgium, and other European countries.
Objectives to Promote Sustainable Production Measures
The Sustainable European Beef (SEUB) program, under which this campaign is framed, will run until 2027 with co-financing from the European Union and the participation of Provacuno (Spain) and Apaq-W (Belgium). It includes various actions aimed at both the general public and industry professionals.
With regard to the public, the campaign seeks to increase awareness of the European beef production model, especially concerning its sustainability, as well as to raise awareness of the role of citizens in achieving the European Union’s climate neutrality goal for 2050.
Furthermore, the program aims to support the sector in its transition to more sustainable models, facilitating access to training, technical information, and knowledge-sharing opportunities. The ultimate goal is to promote the adoption of best practices that contribute to reducing emissions and protecting and improving soil health.
