The food industry expects that the increase in food prices will continue to moderate. This has been stated in the economic report of the sector in 2023 presented by FIAB at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

The inflationary context, global instability and the effects of the climate are responsible for the 2.6% reduction in production, to 162,459 million euros, a figure that is “worrying”, although the sector continues to be the first in the manufacturing industry.

Exports, another of the strongholds of the food and beverage industry, have continued their upward trend to 47,620 million euros, which represents an increase of 3.4%, which García de Quevedo has described as “acceptable” , despite being “very far from the double-digit growth of the last fifteen years.”

The food industry, with a total weight of 2.33% nationally, remains focused on the concentration of companies that helps to be “somewhat stronger”, although they remain fundamentally SMEs, according to the report.
