Costa Food Group, Càrniques Celrà and Laboratorios Farmacéuticos ROVI create Glicopepton Biotech to produce compounds of high technological value from pig by-products. This is a business collaboration that involves the constitution of one of the first structures at the national level for the self-supply of heparins and products with high nutritional value for animal feed and fertilizers in Spain.
The project contemplates the creation of a plant that will be located in the Industrial Logistics Platform of Fraga (Huesca) with an area of 25,000 m2 in whose construction approximately 40 million euros will be invested jointly. It is estimated that this initiative will lead to the generation of 30 direct and 20 indirect jobs, forming a highly qualified team.
The initiative reflects the concept of circular economy and brings together the pig and pharmaceutical sectors. This project pursues, on the one hand, the creation of both economic and technological value by transforming the pig’s mucosa into a biotechnological product with high added value, such as heparin, and, on the other hand, the development of fertilizers and new supplements animal feed.
Fármaco anticoagulante
Glicopepton Biotech aúna la experiencia de ROVI como empresa líder en la investigación de heparinas de bajo peso molecular (HBPM), con el posicionamiento de Costa Food Group, tercer mayor grupo porcino europeo y la experiencia de Càrniques Celrà, referente cárnico.
La HBPM es un fármaco anticoagulante utilizado para prevenir y tratar la enfermedad tromboembólica venosa. Se trata de un producto de origen biológico cuya materia prima se obtiene de la mucosa intestinal de los cerdos.
Con Glicopepton Biotech se creará una estructura para la investigación y el desarrollo que además buscará revalorizar el resto de productos que se generen en este proceso para poder ser usados como pienso de alto valor nutritivo para animales o fertilizantes. El proyecto se someterá a la obtención de los permisos y autorizaciones administrativas y regulatorias que procedan.
