ANAFRIC attended today the presentation of the Action Plan to promote Catalan Cuisine, an initiative promoted by the Government of Catalonia aimed at preserving, promoting and showcasing Catalonia’s gastronomic heritage while strengthening its connection with the entire agri-food chain.
The event was attended by the President of the Government of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, and the Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food, Òscar Ordeig, who presented the main strategic lines of the plan and highlighted the importance of gastronomy as a driver of identity, economic development and the international projection of Catalonia.
During the event, the 4th Catalan Cuisine Congress, scheduled for the summer of 2027 in Tarragona, was also announced. The congress will bring together representatives from the entire gastronomic and agri-food chain—including producers, livestock farmers, fishermen, the food industry, distributors, restaurateurs, chefs, researchers and food communicators—to define future actions aimed at further promoting Catalan cuisine.
The new Action Plan seeks to build on Catalonia’s legacy as the World Region of Gastronomy 2025 through initiatives designed to preserve its culinary heritage, promote local products and strengthen cooperation among all stakeholders within the agri-food ecosystem.
Among the planned initiatives is the creation of the Catalan Cuisine Brand, a recognition awarded to establishments committed to promoting traditional Catalan cuisine, using locally sourced products and preserving the region’s culinary heritage.
For ANAFRIC, initiatives such as this help highlight the work carried out throughout the entire food chain and recognise the essential role played by farmers, livestock producers, the food industry and the hospitality sector in preserving and promoting Catalan gastronomy.
