The interprofessional organizations Provacuno and Interovic, together with Mercamadrid and the Central Meat Market, are organizing an open house for the media as part of Meat Detectives, an educational initiative that introduces the livestock and meat sector to young people.
What is Meat Detectives?
Meat Detectives is a fun and educational program integrated into the Madrid City Council’s “An Open Book” initiative. Held every Monday at the Mercamadrid Central Meat Market, it allows children to learn, in an age-appropriate and educational way, about:
The economic and social importance of livestock farming.
The beef and lamb production process.
The nutritional benefits of meat in a balanced diet.
The role of the Central Meat Market as a key link in the food chain.
The activity is facilitated by specialized instructors and features the direct participation of industry professionals from the market itself, who explain their work and answer questions in a real-world setting.
Objective of the initiative
The objective of Meat Detectives is to promote knowledge, transparency, and food education from an early age, bringing the realities of the sector closer to the school environment with rigor, clarity, and a pedagogical approach.
In a context where food and livestock production are subject to intense media scrutiny, initiatives like this contribute to providing verified and understandable information about the sector’s role in the economy, the region, and nutrition.
