The beef cattle sector in Spain is one of the pillars of national livestock production. It currently represents around 15% of the value of final livestock production and involves more than 6.5 million head of cattle distributed across approximately 110,000 farms throughout the country.
In this context, generational renewal and the incorporation of women into the livestock sector have become key aspects for ensuring continuity, modernizing rural areas, and developing more innovative and sustainable production models.

With this objective, the partners of the SECUESVAC Operational Group are organizing a webinar on March 16 at 4:00 PM, which will be broadcast via their YouTube channel. The webinar will analyze the opportunities that rural areas offer to women and young people within the beef cattle sector.
During the event, Matilde Moro, manager of ASOPROVAC, will address the evolution of women’s presence in livestock farming in recent years and its impact on areas such as innovation, research, and the sector’s sustainable development.
Subsequently, María Andrade, from Agro-food Cooperatives of Asturias; Natalia Maestro, from ASOPROVAC Castilla y León; and Francisco López Calvo, from the Galician Association of Agro-food Cooperatives, will delve into the professional, business, and development opportunities that rural areas offer for women and young people in beef cattle production.

The SECUESVAC Operational Group is promoted by PROVACUNO, which is also responsible for the project’s training and technical content. The initiative has the support of the Directorate General for Rural Development, Innovation and Agri-food Training, the authority responsible for managing aid from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).
The project is co-financed 80% by the EAFRD and 20% by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, with a total grant of €548,889.40, and has an implementation period from August 2024 to May 2027.
At ANAFRIC, we closely follow initiatives like this, which contribute to strengthening the future of the livestock sector, promoting generational renewal, and highlighting the role of women in meat production in Spain.
