The Ubrique leather goods cluster and Leather Cluster Barcelona intensify their collaboration

Coinciding with the celebration of the autumn edition of the REC.0 fashion festival, a delegation from the Cadiz town of Ubrique has been in Igualada this November to visit Leather Cluster Barcelona. During their stay in Igualada, meetings have been held to share knowledge between the two clusters and deepen collaboration in areas ranging from research and innovation, to sustainability, the circular economy, training and communication with the end consumer.

 

 

Led by its mayor, José Mario Casillas, the Ubrique expedition has been made up of the four deputy mayors of the City Council, José Antonio Bautista, Marian Moreno, Daniel Domínguez and Francisco de Asís, Carmen Moreno and Juan Nuñez, general secretary and vice president of the CEC (Confederation of Businessmen of Cádiz), Pepe Montiel president of Asopiel (Association of Leather Businessmen of Ubrique) and Cristóbal de Piña and Javier Gallego, president and manager of the leather technology center, Movex.

 

The two clusters have met to hold meetings and study synergies in terms of communication to the entire society

 

 

Under the title “Dialogue on the future challenges of the leather sector. Ubrique and Igualada two miracle towns” a debate-gathering took place with the following speakers: Carmen Romero, from the CEC; Cristóbal de Piña and Javier Gallego from Movex; Josep Sont, vice president of ASEFMA (Spanish Association of Leather Goods Manufacturers) and Xavier Badia and Jordi Vidal from Leather Cluster Barcelona.

 

 

Cultural and intangible value

The round table has generated an interesting dialogue full of inspiration and mutual learning, where experiences and visions have been shared on how to value the intangible cultural heritage accumulated by professionals from the two clusters, on the reasons that explain why after centuries the The leather sector continues to be one of the growth drivers of Ubrique and Igualada and its areas of influence, or how to improve the image of the leather and its industry for consumers.

Regarding this last topic, the communication of the skin sector to the entire public, the two clusters have been scheduled to hold meetings very soon to study synergies and possible collaborations with specific actions and messages that reach the entire society.
