he United States recognises European regionalisation and keeps imports of Spanish pork products open

The United States has officially recognised the regionalisation principle applied by the European Union, a key decision to ensure the continuity of Spanish pork exports despite the detection of African Swine Fever (ASF) cases in wild fauna.

Estados Unidos reconoce la regionalización europea y mantiene abiertas las importaciones de porcino español

This recognition allows trade flows to continue with one of the most strategic markets for the Spanish pork sector. According to Foreign Trade data, the United States imports Spanish pork products worth close to €100 million per year, highlighting the importance of this decision for the sector’s stability.

At the same time, Japan has authorised the import of packaged pork products with a production date of 29 October or earlier, a measure that also helps to mitigate the commercial impact of sanitary restrictions.

However, the international context remains complex. More than one hundred sanitary export certificates are currently blocked in around 40 countries, underlining the need to continue advancing international recognition of European control and biosecurity systems.

ASF situation in wild fauna

Spanish authorities have confirmed two new African Swine Fever outbreaks in wild boar, involving a total of three positive animals. Both cases are located close to previously detected outbreaks and within the perimeter considered to be at highest risk, defined as a 20-kilometre radius.

With these new cases, a total of seven outbreaks have now been confirmed, affecting 16 animals overall. In addition, 110 dead wild boar detected in the area and its surroundings have tested negative following the corresponding analyses.

ANAFRIC is closely monitoring the evolution of the sanitary situation and positively values the international recognition of regionalisation, a key tool to protect the sector, ensure food safety and minimise the economic impact of this type of crisis.
