The AECOC Congress began this afternoon in Lleida with a first day dedicated to market analysis, the evolution of retail, and the strategic role of the livestock and meat sector in the current economic and social context.

ANAFRIC is participating as a sponsor of the Congress, reaffirming its commitment to spaces for reflection, data, and debate that contribute to strengthening the meat value chain.

Institutional welcome and start of the program
After the welcome coffee and networking among attendees, the Congress was officially opened with speeches by Josep Solé, president of the AECOC Meat Committee, and the mayor of Lleida, Félix Larrosa, who highlighted the relevance of the meat sector to the economy, the region, and employment, as well as the importance of fostering constructive dialogue among all links in the chain.
Next, Josu Andrés Pérez, Customer Success Leader at NielsenIQ, opened the content block with the presentation “The FMCG Market and Meat Products,” offering an updated overview of consumer behavior, the evolution of the category, and the main challenges facing the sector in the current environment.
The session continued with a panel discussion focused on trends in meat product retail, analyzing changes in purchasing habits, the category’s positioning at the point of sale, and strategies for adapting to an increasingly demanding consumer.
Program for the first day
The afternoon continued with a program of high strategic content:
Efficiency and sustainability in the meat sector’s value chain, with a presentation by Roberto García, addressing the challenges related to competitiveness, process optimization, and sustainability.
Panel discussion: The Value of Livestock Farming, with the participation of Oriol Canal and José Luis Gesalaga, focusing on the essential role of livestock production and its economic, social, and territorial contributions.
“The War for Animal Protein,” a presentation by Manuel Pimentel, will analyze the current debate surrounding animal protein, its position in Europe, and the regulatory and social context surrounding the sector.
The day will conclude with a cocktail dinner for attendees, providing a new space for networking and professional interaction.
